Now I'm wondering if I did my math right when I pulled the raw numbers from the site and put them into Excel. Let me go back and poke at it.

The number of gun-related homicides in Japan in 2008 was 11. That year, they had a population of 127 million (approximately). So yes, you're right. The number is even smaller. I was trying to get to a point where I could actually say number of people, rather than rates, because that packs more punch for most folks.

They have a page stating their numbers / 100,000 .
But when I look at some of their numbers , I have doubts .

America has problems with guns , no doubt .

I was trying to get to an actual whole number per so many population. Rates don't pack the same kind of punch as being able to say "For every X number of people in the population, Y people get killed by guns each year."
