    If the Feds mandated that every new home built in America must have solar panels AND that any and all improvements to the grid include SMART GRID tech which allows for micro-poduction and feedback to the system, the price of solar panels would become so cheap that anyone redoing his or her roof would be insane not to add them.

    I have a 6k system on my house. Also, my pool has been solar heated (the filter pumps water to the roof, where it cascades through flat black panels before returning to the pool) for 20 years. My pool can hit 90 in June in New England...

      comments in this thread.  Requiring panels on all homes would (in some cases) require people to cut down tens of trees to get a clear view of the sky or prevent them from building at all.
