Every new panel put in provides long-term competition for the fossil fuel industry. If you want the price of gas (oil, coal, natural gas) to go down, putting in any kind of renewable is a step toward exactly that goal.

And, on top of it, it provides energy independence for your community. This is especially important for rural areas and small towns (read "Republican areas") because it helps to keep money in those areas, rather than shipping it out all the time to energy producers from other areas.

As a national policy, promoting renewables (and PV specifically) is an excellent option. The trend in PV prices is down, and the more we install the cheaper they'll get.

Thanks for pointing out this excellent proposal, HoundDog!
