This needs to be about the teachers. The monument may, and should, bring up questions about the place of guns in our society, but this is about the teachers.

I worked as a Preschool and Pre-K teacher and this incident has really disturbed me.

I keep thinking about the teachers and what I would have done in the same situation. Had this nutcase come into my classroom I would have taken the first bullets and I'm confident that most teachers of young children would feel the same way.

There is obviously a direct connection between guns and these killings. I can't imagine that it could have been this bad without these high powered weapons.

Therefore, I'm very keen on what many would consider extreme measures to put an end to this. And, I consider melting all the guns down as most appropriate.

The only trouble with retirement is...I never get a day off!

I want the focus on the teachers, with as few excuses to break that focus and rehash tired arguments as possible. This proposal is about honoring teachers who have given their lives, though I believe the existence of that monument in whatever permanent material would inevitably raise other questions about why it had to be built in the first place.
