but from what I can tell this story is not entirely accurate.

She was trying to hide her kids in closets when the shooter came. And she shielded her kids with her own body, at the cost of her life.

But I have not found from a primary source any indication of whether she saved all her students in so doing.

    I sure hope she did.

She did all she could, and gave all she had.

Let's hope she did save her kids, and work to make ourselves and our country worthy of her.

to be remembered and honored for her sacrifice.

Just not with a photo of her sister instead of her, and an inaccurate story, yanno?

    •  I don't have the link (0+ / 0-)

but I'd read from a reputable news source yesterday that some of her kids bolted out of the closet when the shooter confronted the teacher and were shot as they tried to run from the classroom.

The remaining kids were found huddled in the back of the closet when law enforcement showed up.

    •  5 died, MSNBC or ABC this AM reported that (0+ / 0-)

her cousin is being widely interviewed and he repeats what his family members told him that the police told them

He is interviewed more widely than family of any other teacher so we hear about Vicki more

I too feel or worry about being a wet blanket ie don't want to detract. But also, because of the lock down protocol to hide the kids lock the door

the teachers who died, perhaps most of them, likely died like or similarly to Vicki

that protocol protected kids first. I saw three teachers who survived locked down with students interviewed. They related what they did how they told kids they'd be safe they were loved it would be ok how they held doorknobs closed pushed furniture musical instruments against doors. One music teacher holding door closed with own hands while shooter banged on other door yelling Let Me IN...all said while weeping

little did they know their stories reveal their own incredible deep love for these kids and heroism. WE can extrapolate and know the dead teachers were likely coming from the same place. It is hard to imagine someone coming from that place not protecting the kids with her body (you just have to see these teachers the FIERCE protective love eminating from them) if the shooter actually confronted them.
