  •  About NRA membership (and more) (0+ / 0-)

I'm not, BTW, nor am I a member of the RKwhatever.  In many places, the only range available for shooting is a gun club range.  To use the range, an individual must be either a gun club member, or a guest of a member.  In almost every case, the club requires that a member also be a member of the NRA--this is for insurance purposes--the clubs get their insurance via the NRA.

Now, I advise everyone to have a look at the U.S. map of the 2012 election, one that  breaks down how America voted, by county.  Notice the huge number of red counties?  The majority of those throughout the west are the gun-loving, Bible thumping folks Obama was castigated for mentioning in 2008.  Although under-populated (in many cases) they have guns, lots of guns.  They don't like to have their lives interfered with, especially by city dwellers, and most especially by the Federal government.  A direct result of this attitude is the killing of wolves, which was a prominent topic on this list last week.  "Tree huggers" and "environmentalists" are singled out as the causes of many of their problems, as well as "liberals", and gun-control is especially despised, because "You city slickers", simply "do not understand".  These folks are frustrated because they don't like that their votes don't make a lot of difference, especially in blue states, because the urban areas decide elections, and just bring up gun control and you will see them get really, really pissed off. This country has an attitude problem with a significant portion of the population, and I don't see any easy answer, because when those folks feel threatened they circle their wagons and double down on the crazy.

    •  Are there no other insurer options? (0+ / 0-)

It would seem to me (one of those wolf loving - ever since I first read Jack London - city slickers) a worthy cause to break an apparent monopoly of the NRA. Could gun ranges accept other insurers? A self-insured individual? Funny thing for folks who also like to go on about the free market having such a closed system.

    •  so... (0+ / 0-)

If they are so reactionary... as to break into a froth when, for  example, asked how they feel about the right to automatic weapons, or to extended magazines..  And whether they feel their rights to own these particular items trump the right of children to enjoy life...

Then its time to start discussing these things repeatedly and rationally,  over, and over.. damn the torpedoes!!

Personally I would rather deal with the foaming at the mouth wrath of people who refuse to even reasonably discuss the issue, I would rather have that argument daily... To get yelled at, spit on, whatever... If I thought it meant that I would never again have to hear news like Sandy Hook.

Jezus... It's only 2 years since my Congresswoman along with 6 others were mowed down by a guy carrying a weapon with an extended magazine.

And we quiver and cower at the thought of an argument?  These opinions must be changed to save lives.
