  •  The suburban face is a recent development... (0+ / 0-)

like within the last 10 years.  A good portion of the residents that moved here are Chicagoans who traded a long drive for lower taxes.  My husband was a new construction painter during the initial boom.  He used to laugh at them for moving out here thinking they got such a good deal.  Little did they know that 'lake' was basically a sewer and many the contractors were slapping up inferior homes/condos to sell to the suckers.

I've heard the term 'Cedartucky' and it fits the history of the area.  There's also nearby Rensselaer, which gets referred to as Rensseltucky.  Regardless of the location, their backwards perspectives are apparent when they wander out of their insular communities.

No, I will NOT sit down or shut up...but, thanks for askin'!

    •  The pricers were certainly high enough. (1+ / 0-)

The prices for the suburban homes in Cedar Lake seemed high enough.  The new houses look quite nice from the outside, but we'll see what happens in 20 years.
