  •  Arming teachers???!!! (1+ / 0-)

Anyone who suggest such a thing is a complete fool and has no idea of what the daily life within a school is like.  Securing such guns would be a logistical nightmare, most likely making them not readily available when needed and like any thing else in the world would be subject to human error and behavior.  If the teachers concealed on their person - depending on grade level it's a good chance they would have them taken by students during a confrontation in the hallway or by a attack by some student who'd had a "bad day at home", "just broke up with his girlfriend", "high on drugs",etc. and is ready to "get even with the world".  Oh, and just like in the general population there happens to be a tiny percentage of the people working in the schools (teachers, administrators, janitors, etc.) that have anger, mental and emotional issues themselves.

As a retired teach I can speak personally of being confronted by a student with a knife and wondering how this is going to end - thank goodness I wasn't packing!!!  I also had the experience of watching our administration deal with a teacher that was "bat crap" crazy whose husband had shot himself to death.  Her house was loaded with guns!!

There are a lot of ways to succeed, but one sure way to fail is to quit.

this meme on Facebook and elsewhere really haven't thought one second about the logistics or cost of such a proposal. One of the posters put up the sign you see at or near many schools "This is a gun free zone..." and then created one of their own "All adults in this facility are armed and trained to use deadly force..." then asked, "Which of these do you think would have kept those children in CT safer?" I wanted to projectile vomit when I saw that (preferably on the asshole who posted it) I figured calling out their hypocrisy is a must. We let them spout their nonsense unchallenged often and long enough and somehow even the most insane of their ideas becomes a "possible solution". And while they love their guns I'm willing to bet they hate taxes a 100X's more and don't really want to "solve" the problem at all, they just want to spew their venom.

To me progress is not so much a goal as it is a process and I believe it will not follow a straight course. Remember, the drops of water that form the river may not take the shortest path but they will still reach the ocean.
