I will put it more starkly. Using that quote as your sig line indicates that you want to play the victim. That is not a good strategy.

    •  Not the victim. (4+ / 0-)

I wasn't playing the victim when I was using congressman alan west's quote about people with obama 12 stickers being a "threat to the gene pool".

I take threats seriously, even internet toughguy threats. Stochastic terrorism. OReilly uses incite-ful language on his show and Tiller gets shot. West calls people threats to the gene pool and...? Winston says he wants to put a gun to my head and what, I'm supposed to think it's okay? Bull, not okay.

Were it my sig line, I would change it. We had a terrible time here that day, I was accused of being responsible for all those children being killed and compared to a slaver. It hurt. But, we have to get past this if we are going to move forward and do something that I feel is important.

For those of you who like to use RKBA members as stand-ins for all of your most hated people and who say whatever you want and get away with it, think first. Just think, please. There are people on the other end of those handles and they are your allies in 99% of the things that matter to you.

For my fellow RKBAers, these last few days have been brutal. Not to mention that we all have examples of people just being brutal and getting recs for comments that would get HRs in any other circumstance. We have to put it behind us, we have to let people know where we stand and why and try to come to agreements.

It's time we stop yelling at each other.

Winston Sm1th, front pager BBB, whatever - whoever.
Let the asshattery be theirs, not shared.

In hindsight, a few people who hit the rec button on those comments might have to rethink how much more noble, evolved and superior they are.

Or... they can remain t00ls, and hope the positions put forth can somehow get imbued with majik fairy dust and apply to Republicans only.
          Like warrantless searches, presumptive guilt.
          Admittedly minor shit.
Just the wholesale, once-and-for-all elimination of the Fourth and Fifth Amendments - as that's easier and more incremental than elimination of the Second Amendment.

Hell, we voted FOR the PATRIOT Act, right?
Your junk, fondled by experts, at no additional charge.
So what's a kick in the head and a Tasering in your living room?  Nothin'.  'ts'easy.

      •  I understand there's been a lot of strong (6+ / 0-)

emotions and hurt feelings lately. I don't want to minimize your feelings about that comment...

I do think you should change your sig line. Why? I think it is best we as a community try and move past this, and toward civil conversation. That sig line sends a message you are focused on past inflammatory comments, rather than focused on ongoing civility efforts.

I truly think you should change it..

        •  On one hand I agree with Jay, (1+ / 0-)

on the other, I think the sig line is a bit much and may in fact send the wrong message to less savy users about Jay's own thoughts. I hate the meta nonsense and many users don't "get" the meta of Kos.

I think moving past what was posted and what is in Jay's sigline would require administrative discipline on those who uprated that nastiness and on the person who said the despicable quote in the sigline. If nothing is done to reprimand those individuals, then it highlights that the rules really don't apply to some people depending upon the argument they are making....that doesn't mesh well with how I'd like to think the Kos community operates.

I do think however that perhaps further discussion on the sig should probably continue in kosmails or some other format so as not to drag the comments further off topic from the diarists intended purpose.

    •  so ignorant. to use that sig line (1+ / 0-)

as ignorant as someone against the NRA and RBKA's founder using his words - espcially if you only take take the one bolded line.
yes. it's as stupid as using this sig line.
except no one is using the below.
      and never will.
grow up already, stop whining, stop playing the endless victim, and like an adult.
for pete's sake, even now you act like a brat in using it and pretending your life is at risk.

Violence can be the solution. (13+ / 0-)

Though it's not the only one and rarely (if ever) should it be the first one.

Republicans cause more damage than guns ever will.

    •  I agree. (4+ / 0-)

But I was also very disappointed at the number of recs the comment that the sigline came from earned.

is the problem with this whole country.

In that we see violence as acceptable as long as it is done by our side to keep our people safe.

And guess what, every one goes and interprets that their own way - as we have seen on this site.

It's an excusable statement as long as it was made to be against violence.  Somehow.

You go home and tell your children that it's OK to tell someone they want to put a gun to someone's head - just so long as it's someone you oppose.

This is the fucking problem with this country.
