  •  GWB had some good pics with kids too. (6+ / 0-)

This did not make him a good President or any less of a war criminal.  This has to be one of the most inane diaries I have ever read on dailykos.  Congrats.

Do only American children deserve our concern?

I didn't make this about something other than the Sandy Hook tragedy, the diarist did.

This diary places the President on high, claiming he is incontrovertibly good because he brought smiles to the faces of juvenile survivors of gun violence. Furthermore, he mocked anyone who does not share his conclusion. But this accolade is directly undermined by the President's rocket launcher campaign in Pakistan, a continuing onslaught that kills and terrorizes children (amongst other noncombatants).

I'm hoping that those deaths are weighing heavily on his conscience.

              complained about drones?

Also, drones have much smaller percentage of civilian victims than the previously used type of warfare. So, relatively speaking, an improvement.

See the following link to see what sort of improvement our President is responsible for, and note that he has declared that all military aged men killed by these drone attacks are automatically considered "enemy combatants" unless US intelligence later proves them otherwise, a policy designed to lower official civilian death counts.

GWB would have probably looked just as warm and compassionate with them as well.

This diarist essentially put up a picture of Obama kissing a baby as proof of what a good man/President he is.  I generally expect a level of political discourse a little bit higher than this on DailyKos.

(Note: my comments were made before the "correction" was posted which is itself 10x as long as the original diary.  To the correction, all I can say is what can you expect when you post something so void of intellectual content)

      You know what?

Yes, George W. Bush was great with things like this.

His problem was he was too incompetent to handle the many faceted sides of a disaster/tragedyy such as this and he handed things over to his advisers and staff who really were not only incompentent but did not have this touch.

I think that Bush should have trusted his instincts more in times like...well, Hurricane Katrina than he actually did.

Bush took some very moving pics during the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina, too.

the original commenter would agree with you - that George Bush took very moving pics as well.  That's why I think that this diary, which before it was updated, was a picture and a few words describing why it would explain to his detractors why he was good - is simply an incomplete and superficial look at Obama.  The complexity in why he is better than Bush can't be explained simply in a photo -- and I disagree entirely with the diarist's premise that showing this picture to his detractors would sway them.

Note: the update didn't change that.

I could see Bush doing this...

I mean, look at what GWB was doing at the time that 2 commercial airliners hit the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001?

He was reading to children. Yes, a President is expected to do that from time to time and...if those planes hadn't hit the Twin Towers, that picture of Bush reading My Pet Goat would be as moving a picture as any.

Again, GWB had management problems and incompetent advisors even and especially on 9.11.

I think that pictures like this are part of the reason that Obama is now President as opposed to Mitt Romney or any of the other people in the clown car BUT IT'S FAR FROM THE WHOLE STORY.

          •  One point (0+ / 0-)

of difference: If the story is to be believed - Bush knew about that the planes had crashed as he was reading the book.

But I think the main point remains - that this picture of Obama, while a nice picture, would not convince any of his detractors to say, "Oh gosh, look at that picture, I must have been all wrong about Obama."

People that admire the President love the picture. But his most ardent supporters, such as the diarist, make a critical error in thinking that others besides his ardent devotees would be swayed simply by viewing it.

            •  Another point of difference here (0+ / 0-)

The first plane crash into the WTC was largely considered to be an accident...at least that's what the media and government spin.

Which is why George W. Bush continued reading to the kids.

It was the second plane crash into the WTC that made Bush and the Administration haul ass...although, IIRC, the military was aware of the destination of that second plane and was deployed to chase it but it was simply too late
