  •  As opposed to offensive wounds? (4+ / 0-)

I don't even understand the point he's trying to make.

    •  He's saying they had their little hands in front (6+ / 0-)

of their faces trying to shield themselves, or stretched out toward the killer, trying to ward off the bullets.

What's sick is that Gohmert is framing this as an offense-defense situation, an extension of his claim that arming civilians will permit them to defend themselves.  Thus the children have "defensive wounds"-- as though having given guns to them would have permitted them to "defend" themselves against a madman armed for slaughter.

That's one more thing to add to my long list of small problems. --my son, age 10

Let's look at the definition for a moment.

"A wound sustained when a victim places a hand, arm or other body part to prevent or minimize a blow or slashing by a sharp weapon."

If some of the children were found with bullets shot through their forearms and hands, then that does suggest 'defense wounds' according to the standard definition.

So Gohmert could be right about this, but it doesn't diminish from his far larger problem.  That is his idea that everyone should be armed and ready for combat fire at all moments; that is what's truly a nightmare if sketched out in actual practice.

      •  What he is insinuating is that the children tried (9+ / 0-)

to fight back, which is absurd. It wasn't the fucking Alamo, it was a classroom. Him talking this way diminishing what actually happened and propagates the continuing fetish that allows them to think more guns is the solution to gun violence.

        •  Thanks - my point is that he's not stupid on this (1+ / 0-)

thing he's saying about 'defensive wounds' - he is actually technically accurate.  I'm sure some of the children tried to curl up into a ball covered by their arms/hands, especially after the first few classmates were killed.  Horrific.

But yeah he's being tactical here.  Which is all the more obscene, to play pro-gun rhetorical tactics over these childrens' lives.

      •  Well, Torta, he actually found two facts, then (0+ / 0-)

because he pointed out that Lanza went to the school sure no one there would be able to defend the people inside it against his attack.
