parents instead of mothers. I've never seen so many grown men cry as I have in the past few days.

mothers are more primal and immediate. Few things compel sympathy and empathy more than a mother fighting to protect her children. The use of mothers also makes the NRA seem much more bullyish in opposing them.

There's nothing to stop all parents from joining in, but in considering the optics it would be far more effective to have the face of the movement be a group of mothers protecting the children they gave birth to.

required years to find their voice.
"MY BABY!" was met with :

Why didn't you watch your child?  Who let's kids out with booze and "have a good time honey - be home by 11:00"
"I didn't know..." was seen as poor parenting - and eliminated the message.

They moved onto substantive, less emotional ground, and got the attention of lawmakers;  who already felt pressure from the cops, firefighters, EMS crews.
And... big one here, the Insurance industry.

If you want instant traction, put forth less "my baby" and more Milk Carton Kids.  Put faces to the deaths, and look beyond "guns" as the only social ill killing the under 30 age set.
MADD helped pressure automakers, Highway Departments, and local governments to spend the money on auto safety, elimination of bad sections of roadway, and establishing sobriety checkpoints.

Check with MADD before you think of using MAGD (mothers against gun deaths) or any variation thereof.

They sued a friend who purchased a business which used "madd" in it's name.  Court found no cause for diminishment of copyright, but it cost the fellow money, serious money.
HE needed to document how his business - which sells wine and beer - did not infringe upon the copyrights, nor diminish the MADD brand, nor confuse the public into thinking the organization operated the business.

        "Oh they won't we're fellow liberal/democrats/progressives."
A lot of Red State moms, are MADD members, or did Republicans cease breeding a few decades ago?

"mothers against gun deaths" or even "parents against gun deaths"- I think everyone is against gun deaths and the title should be about solutions.
Something like parents for gun regulation or gun safety would be more to my liking. The title should reflect the goal.

MADD has been incredibly effective and I think their biggest impact was on public attitudes about drunk driving. My kids were in high school shortly after MADD was founded, and all of a sudden drunk driving was considered something only an asshole would do. That was a complete turnaround from my teenage years, when guys ignored the danger and were likely to rebel if someone said they were too drunk to drive. Girls weren't much smarter- I got into plenty of cars with a guy who'd had too much beer.

If we could make gun toting as uncool as drunk driving- or smoking- that would be a big win. And if "red state moms"- or dads, wanted to join, so much the better.

Fiscal conservative: a Republican ready to spend $5 to save a dime--especially if that dime is helping a non-donor.
