I don't see Manchin voting for a renewed AWB. He would get tossed out here. Republicans made big gains in the legislature.

I can see maybe him surviving banning big magazines or moving military style guns into a separate category where you'd have to jump thru a psych screening or something to get them, but anything on the level a lot of people her on DKos want would get him tossed out.

    •  And on the gun issue, that would be bad why? (0+ / 0-)

The civil rights, gay rights and women's movements, designed to allow others to reach for power previously grasped only by white men, have made a real difference, and the outlines of 21st century America have emerged. -- Paul West of LA Times

He's very good at making it sound like he is for something, without actually saying so. So now he wants to make it look like he is the one bringing the NRA to the table. You can bet his is working for them.

This whole media blitz is reminiscent of his appearances during the Sago mine disaster and how he vowed that he  was going to make sure nothing like that ever happened again.
Great theatrics, but then there's the video taken at the 2008 Coal symposium with Manchin recounting how he had told his safety regulators to relax enforcement of violations in the mines. The guy talks out of both sides of his mouth and never misses the opportunity to take political advantage of a situation.
