  •  How long will it take to undo the damage? (8+ / 0-)

    A smiler, indeed.

But how long will it take Democrats, once elected, to undo the damage Rick Snyder and legislative Republicans have done to Michigan?

    •  My thought as well.... (3+ / 0-)

I think a lot of these governors (Scott, Snyder, Walker, et al) did as much as they could in the time they had knowing that it would likely keep them from being re-elected.

The stars in 2010 aligned for the GOTP, Kochs, ALEC et al to take advantage of ramming through horrible legislation at the state level.

How long will it take to undo?  I'm afraid years when we factor in all the gerrymandering that occurred.

since WWII (67 years), Democrats have only controlled the Michigan Senate, House, and Governor for four years (1983 -- 1986), and to repeal legislation requires that. All through Gov. Granholm's tenure, the state Senate was "the place good legislation goes to die". You can get some legislation passed with divided government through horse trading, but never the repeal of a partisan win like RTW.

With the current strong gerrymander in place, it is highly unlikely that Dems will control the Senate, at least, for the next decade, even if we win the Governor's race and the House in 2014, which is at least possible.
