Finding places to shoot that don’t require membership in a radical right organization such as the NRA are obviously not very common.  Unfortunately, the NRA has scared many gun owners into thinking that if they don’t support the NRA, they will lose their guns.  Fear allows the NRA to grow stronger and more powerful and the cycle continues.  We hope to help break that cycle by giving gun owners an option to the right wing propaganda machines.  Unfortunately, many liberal gun owners join a variety of ‘gun rights groups so that they can use a particular shooting range.  By listing here the places that people can shoot without having to join a particular club or support a business that is overtly supporting the propaganda machine, we hope to eliminate people joining organizations like the NRA simply because they ‘have too’.

    •  Shooting at paper-doll cut-outs of people? (2+ / 0-)

Can't you find some other hobby that doesn't involve shooting at paper-doll cut-outs of people?

If those paper targets looked like the paper dolls that first-graders cut out with safety scissors, would you still aim your bleeding weapons at them and pull the trigger?

Why not melt the god damn guns down and spend your free time helping first graders cut out hand-holding paper dolls?

Seriously, how can you ever again take aim and fire upon a paper target of a person without thinking of a first-grader cutting out paper dolls?

my targets rather than your dimwitted anthropomorphic/erotic fantasy premise which reveals a lot more about your sad life than mine

        •  You think this is funny? (3+ / 0-)

You think it is so funny and clever to blithely continue to shoot your deadly guns at those paper cutouts at your precious gun range? And you know the paper cutouts I am referring to; they are targets of people.

Get a life that doesn't involve laughing about target shooting when twenty kids and their teachers are dead in the sharpshooting capitol of Newtown CT.

If your life isn't saddened by the deaths of these children, there is something deeply ywrong with you.

          •  I've hunted. Not in years. (0+ / 0-)

But fact is, most shooters have a fantasy relationship with their guns. It's more intense than baseball players and their bats and gloves.

The shooters don't know it's fantasy.

It's not an experience that goes with in-depth self-analysis.

But it is great fun to hit a target. I loved shooting skeet. You can get good at it. Going out early/cold/wet in the morning to shoot birds, not so much. Try it and for most folks, wild goose meat is fit for dogs.

Hoplophobia is a pejorative neologism originally coined to describe an "irrational aversion to weapons, as opposed to justified apprehension about those who may wield them." It is sometimes used more generally to describe the "fear of weapons" or the "highly salient danger of these weapons " or the "fear of armed citizens".
