And I'm one of those RKBA members that it insulted.

Had I seen it - I would have dropped a donut as well.

But it really does not need to be promoted.

    •  Bull. It is NOT hidden. (5+ / 0-)

It did NOT get enough "Hides" to make it into the hidden comments. Too man Recs from people who LIKED the idea of shoving a gun to my head. And your head.

It is STILL visible when you log out.

      GO CHECK.

you are giving it more power than it deserves.

This is a time for people here - those who own firearms or support gun ownership, and those who don't - should come together to address better/progressive policy - and the NRA.

I'm not going to change my stance on self-defense, and critter control needs here on the farm, but I'm also hoping we can change the positions of those who think that anyone who owns a gun is somehow complicit in the deaths that are far too frequent.

I am not focused on Newtown, as awful as it was.  And none of my former Panther friends are either.  We are deeply concerned by the hundreds of deaths in our communities of color, whether drug/gang related or inflicted by police.

If we're going to continue to "not focus" on certain victims, don't expect things to ever improve for anyone.

or perhaps I didn't articulate well.

I've been speaking out about children being killed in my communities for decades. Children missing that no one really cares about (piss-poor media coverage) simply because they are not white.

The numbers are horrific. It is very frustrating when you realize that it takes several mass murders in "safe" "white" communities to focus attention.

I have not ignored Newtown. I have been weeping like everyone else. But I also weep for children who die daily who aren't mowed down in a group.

Worked on a CDC funded project which looked at impact of childhood exposure to violence daily .

These things don't exist in a vacuum and IMO are not so separate from the murders of innumerable black children as lots of people would prefer to think.  I believe they feed off each other.  The "nice white people's" weapons and protected access to such arming the gangs, and the gangs fueling the fears of the "nice white people" and the police.  And then nutjobs like the Newtown shooter feeding on the overflow.

The murder of an innocent child on the South Side of Chicago shocks my conscience as much as NewTown, CT. I have been arguing for decades that we need to address gun violence. But individuals are never going to out firepower criminal gangs or fascist police.. What you are purposing is an arms race. Look to the past liberation efforts. How many were put down because a foreign power always out gunned the freedom fighters. Like Patrice Lumumba. Yet the successful ones like Michael Collins in Ireland targeted government officials through intelligence and used a rapier that only killed British government officials on a one to one basis. If you are going to stand up to the cops or drug gangs you are not going to do through firepower. You need a movement that confronts every killing with mass protest in front of police stations and courts. And City Hall. Shut down the city of Chicago until you get results. You can get a million people to watch a Disney parade on Michigan avenue the weekend before Thanksgiving. You can also get a million people to shut down City Hall, the Federal Building and local precinct police stations until they do something about gun crime by the police or others.
