Banning all handguns violates the Second Amendment per Heller and McDonald.
And that position is a complete fraud per Warren Burger.  A lot us of don't agree with a couple of 5-4 decisions in which conservative stooges manufactured a nonexistent right out of whole cloth.  Your point?
"Assault weapon" is a political term with no meaning.
Funny then how so many rightwing assholes get so upset when you talk about banning these things - if the term truly had "no meaning" they wouldn't get so damn out of joint.  For all the hairsplitting lexical formalities ou want to introduce the fact is the term does have a plain, generally accepted meaning - most everyone who uses it uses it as shorthand for "automatic or semi-automatic long guns".  And we all KNOW that's what is meant so I have to wonder WHY you are trying to shift the discussion to semantics.

As for your question...I can't speak for the person you addressed it to. But for myself - I don't see much point in talking.  Gun nuts refuse to discuss even the most basic, common sense reforms so damn if I can see the value in letting them "talk" until the urgency is gone.

    •  Personally, I don't think you've added anything (9+ / 0-)

to this conversation, except to show contempt and insult. What does Kos say about being a something or other in people's diaries?
I also think we have discussed hundreds of proposals in our diaries and comments, So, that theory of yours is wrong. No need to list them again here.
Matter of fact this diary is discussing something that might help, and you ignore it.

of pretense that everybody somehow agrees with what you clearly misunderstand.

The firearms included within the regulatory scope of the 1994 AWB does not include all "automatic or semi-automatic long guns."   That you suggest that is the case simply reveals you really don't know what you're talking about -- whether as a matter of relevant technical distinctions or applicable substantive law ... statutory or constitutional.

Without factual data and critical reasoning -- hairsplitting? --all you really offer is a purely emotive rant filled with invective.

You might try instead to do justice to the diary by addressing some of the identified cultural and human forces that operate to make this a highly complex issue without simple binary solutions.
