    They work hard. Very hard. They show up every day, don't get in trouble, play by the rules.

    They're SUPPOSED to do OK. Not be wealthy, but able to keep up their house, have a decent car, maybe go on vacation sometimes.

    They're barely squeaking by. Any little extra expense is a major problem.

    That's not how it's supposed to work, it's not what they've been told all their lives. So they're looking for a reason. They don't feel like anybody hears them, cares about them, or is trying to help them.

    They'll listen to anybody who has some remotely rational reason why it's not THEIR fault (and it's NOT), somebody who gives them a person/thing/idea to blame.
