  •  Even more when (17+ / 0-)

    Rachel didn't mention it.

    •  Exactly, we had no way of knowing what the (10+ / 0-)

situation was, negotiations or anything. When there is a news blackout how ever frustrating to those who want information, you also have to know the situation is serious.

    •  NBC (including MSNBC) was on a news embargo (9+ / 0-)

So, IIRC, was everyone in the US media including the other major news networks. NBC was asking them not to discuss it.

That, of course, didn't stop sources like Gawker, Twitter and overseas sources. But Rachel was asked not to mention it, so she didn't. (Not like she didn't have plenty to talk about, what with yesterday being the first weekday post Sandy Hook.)

of them seem to be friends, so I would assume she was upset about it if she knew.  Having her not acknowledge it on the air felt a bit worrisome.  She's a professional, though.

Frankly I wish I was the woman he keeps leaving to travel to dangerous parts of the world in search of truth, to return hungry for my embrace, in some sort of Out of Africa adventure-romance.

        :)

Actually he's too young for me.  ;)

But instead of a romance novel, the very real man puts himself in very real danger and tells us important stuff about the world we live in (not the one we imagine we live in, where that thing happening "over there" is of no import to us).

        I'm glad he's okay.

He is an important news source and I am very glad he's out there, and I'm glad he's safe.

Friends or no, if the higher-ups at NBC asked her to hold that particular bit of news, she was wise to do so. For one thing, it could mean her job if she were to break the news without permission; for another, there could have been serious repercussions in the negotiations leading to his release, up to and including his execution, had the story gone awry. (That was of course already a concern with the news reports coming out of social media, and the story would have been addressed sooner or later in any case, I'm sure.)
