Media are talking non-stop about the "Fiscal Cliff" and how a deal must, MUST! be done and how it will lead to economic disaster if not. The media narrative places the advantage to the side that looks less like it's trying to deal.

SO, the Obama Administration states what it truly wants, tax increases on the rich but not the middle class and no cuts to SS and Medicare. They also want more stimulus.

Republicans say HELL NO. Of course they do. Such a deal is against all of their evil principles. Clock ticks.

The Administration holds it's ground for a long time, to impress how serious it is about the things it has said it wants. Which is what it's base wants, what the majority of the American people want.

The media continues to blare it's "OMG FISCAL CLIFF!!!" meme. It continues to insist a deal has to be done or it's a disaster.

The Administration, seeing the clock winding down, makes a compromise offer that still preserves some of what they want but gives some to the other side. By doing so, they signal to the media and America "Hey, we're reasonable and trying to negotiate in good faith, we understand how important this is".

The Republicans say HELL NO. They are led to believe they have the upper hand and will hold out for more. That's what they do. Compromise is not. They've proven it time and again.

Clock continues to tick. The Administration is making offers and they're the ones saying no. They are the reason, therefor, for no deal in the ongoing narrative.

The Administration may or may not sweeten the deal further if it feels it needs to, depending on the clock. Regardless, by making these offers that the Republicans will reject they are feeding the narrative that they're Serious about avoiding the Big Bad Fiscal Cliff and are willing to compromise but the other side is completely unreasonable.

Clock continues to tick to deadline, Republicans still shouting HELL NO! and that they'll "shoot the hostage" aka go over the "Cliff".

Deadline hits, bad things happen, and the Administration turns to the people and says "As you can see, we tried to prevent this even at the cost of things we really believe in. Now whatever happens is their fault."

This is rope-a-dope. The Administration played it's cards perfectly last time to get the sweet hand they have now where they hold all the cards. They're slow playing their hand but they know what they're holding. These "offers" are nothing more than bluffs.

We have less than three weeks to see if I'm right.

The first paragraph's closing sentence should read

"The media narrative places the advantage with the side that most looks like it's willing to make a deal."
