      All of the continental army members were..., as were the signers of the Declaration of Independence.  Hence this sentence on the Declaration of Independence:

      And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
      They knew perfectly well that if they failed in their endeavor they'd all be hanged, drawn, and quartered as traitors.

      that the laws set up in the new Republic provided for said ancestor to immediately pick his gun back up and fire on all the politicians he disagreed with in Congress. That could hardly be called instituting a new gov't.  It's more like instituting endless war.

      If we want to go by the constitution and the law, it's not really cool to threaten politicians with guns. If OTOH we think we're starting the next Revolution, then it's dumb to say we're patriotic Americans, given that what we're threatening with guns is America.
