  •  "Chained CPI" (21+ / 0-)

    Very, very bad idea.

I live at the mercy of our government's social contract to Veterans. I am severely disabled due to injuries incurred in combat in Vietnam. I also receive SSDI, same reason.

My life and my body can never be made whole. Fact.

It can be made worse, and this idea of a chained CPI is just the way to do it. The next fact I offer is that the current CPI in use  does not accurately reflect the inflationary changes in my life. I already do with less every single year. Each year I eat less well, live less comfotably, recede into a worse social situation.

Third fact I wish to present. Every single dollar I receive goes directly into my local economy, to local merchants, to local government as taxes, and to care givers. So when the CPI changes, EVERYONE in my financial sphere gets less, too.

They say shit runs downhill, and it seems I am pretty much covered with the stuff. All because my government can't keep it's word to retirees and disabled veterans because rich people are greedy and selfish. Am I pissed off, you bet.

    Single payer IS the answer.

    •  Thank you for your service (3+ / 0-)

You should not be paying again with your health by having your already inadequate COLA further reduced.
And thank you for supporting local merchants. This chained CPI could force some of us who have been avoiding Wal-Mart to shop there, and further the destruction of local economies. It's a awful idea which will have many terrible repercussions.

    •  You and I are in the same boat (0+ / 0-)

and receive the same benefits and I am extremely pissed... and panicked.  I pray I am panicked for nothing but I doubt it and VA compensation and SSDI is all I have.  Which means I certainly voted against my own interest if this goes through.  The thing is, it just will not go away so it seems inevitable.
