  •  Apartheid tactics can win the day for gop. (0+ / 0-)

Let's not  be so sure that demographics and the politics of race and gender add up to losing proposition for the gop.  They can still gain and retain power through the use of apartheid tactics--such as voter suppression, gerrymandering, changing how electoral votes are cast and counted in individual states, etc.

Remember that minority populations have controlled through legal means and violence much larger majority populations.  Given the current state of the American electorate, the gop will use every means available to them to retain power and it will get much much uglier as the tactics become every more worse.

    •  HUH? -> Apartheid tactics...Really??? (0+ / 0-)

      Mr. Webster, et alia:

Make no mistake, the Republicans have certainly tricked black Americans into supporting them before, there is no doubt about that.

It seems that long ago, the "party of rich old white men" was initially formed to OPPOSE SLAVERY, as the Democrats were seen as a PRO SLAVERY party.

You see what these sneaky bastards did was they acted like slavery was bad and opposed it. By doing so they duped black Americans all across the south into supporting them and even went so far as to allow black Americans to run as Republicans and win elections!!!

Oh, but that is not the worst of it from these "Apartheid Republican" types. In order to really make sure that this scam was believed in they did a lot of other sneaky things too, here are just a few of those rotten acts they perpetrated against black Americans:

The attorney that argued before the Supreme Court on behalf of Dred Scott, he was Republican.

In 1856 the Republican U.S. Senator Charles Sumner (R-MA) was all but beaten to death on the floor of the US Senate by U.S. Rep. Preston Brooks (D-SC) for daring to speak out against slavery!

Now, I know, Democrats are still trying to figure out how this Senator banged his face up against the Democrat Rep Brooks fist over and over and made it look like he actually was getting beaten up by the Democrat.

In 1865 the 13th Amendment (banning slavery) passed the U.S. House with unanimous Republican support, however most Democrats opposed it!

I'd have to admit, this was a real act of trickery...getting unanimous support of all Republicans in the house to vote for the 13th Amendment...those just cannot trust the Republicans one bit!

      DOH! Not again!!!

Then, to really top this off, look at this sneaky little trick they pulled: The first black Congressman to hold office in the US House of Representatives...was Republican...and for a period of 66 Years, EVERY BLACK CONGRESSMAN in the US Congress was Republican, not a Democrat among them. People today are still trying to figure out how the Republicans manipulated the Democratic senior leadership from even running a single black candidate for the House or Senate during those 66 years!

But wait, it gets worse...not only that, but the first black Senator to serve in the US Senate, doh....he was Republican too! And as if that is not bad enough, the first black Senator to be elected to a full term in the US Senate, son of a gun, he was Republican also!

Now, one might think that such trickery and sly moves such as actually supporting the movement of black Americans into high political office was just a passing fad, but, then those tricky bastards went and did it again more recently!!

You see, it seems that the Republicans must have wanted for black Americans to know that they were going to choose to put them into power absent the nasty requirements of an these sneaky Republicans actually went and started to appoint them to high office.

The first black secretary state? Doh...he was appointed by a Republican!

The first black female to be Secretary of State...yes, you guessed it, appointed by a Republican as well.

The first (and only) black Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff...crap...he was appointed by a Republican also!

I know what your thinking...with this kind of a history towards blacks...its is going to be very hard to continue to teach hatred of the Republican Party if people ever read this...perhaps the history should be ignored...yeah, thats the ticket...ignore it...maybe it will just go away...

      Shall we talk about women...?

Susan B. Anthony's petitioned the Congress to end slavery...DOH...also a Republican and supported by Republicans in the US Senate and US House!

The first woman elected to the US Congress was also Republican.

The first woman appointed to the US Supreme Court, yes, appointed by a Republican President.

The Republicans were the first major party to suggest that women should get the right to vote in the US.

I know what you are thinking...STOP ALREADY...I am tired of hearing about Republicans tricking black Americans into supporting their party by actually going out and doing things to ACTUALLY HELP THEM!

Can someone please tell me...what do you suggest be done to stop these SOBs from continuing to promote the integration of black Americans into high
governmental positions??? Who the hell do these Republicans think they are to treat black Americans this well? We must put an end to such fair and respectful treatment as soon as is practicable! We just cannot let this kind of thing continue.

You know, these Republicans are appointing blacks to high governmental positions as if there was never a Democratic President around to do it before.

Why, if this kind of behavior continues, people might actually go and do something terrible, they might actually go and read the history of the Democratic Party and find out how the Democratic nominee Stephen Douglas (whom opposed Lincoln) ran on the idea of reversing the Emancipation Proclamation, and how the Democrats tried to filibuster the 13th Amendment (banning slavery) whilst it was being voted on in the Senate.

Let me just make my disclaimer, the Democrats have surely done good things for black Americans too - its just -- uh...not too many of them come to mind right now and I uh just do not see anyone conducting a comparative analysis of Democrats to Apartheid.

I am an independent that votes based on the issues that are important to me, not by party affiliation. I know sometimes it may seem like I support the Republican position - but, that is not the case. I think it seems that this website is here to simply bash Republicans and not to really think about or consider how best to do what is best for America.

Let me put it this way, if an issue is important to me and the laws of the land are changed to support my position relative to that issue, do you really think I am going to care which party supported making that change??? NO!

      •  New Republicans are Old Dixiecrats ... (0+ / 0-)

While you're doing your historical research, look at the white Protestant religious fundamentalists purposely working to take over the Republican party after LBJ worked on civil rights legislation in the 1960s.

        I remember watching it happen.

Something that doesn't make good sense, makes bad sense. That means someone is being deliberately hurtful & selfish. Look for motives behind actions & words.
