  •  I totally agree with the following from Krugman. (24+ / 0-)
One thing is for sure: any further concession on Obama’s part would make this a total non-starter.
Hell, it's pretty damn close to being a non-starter now, but even giving the benefit of the doubt as Krugman does, anything more is way too far.

That's as good as it's going to get, and it never gonna get that good again.

This was it. We are bound for the cliff (curb). Boner knows it too. He can't control his damn caucus.

I am in the same place you are...but we also have to remember that while we won, we lost the house.  The republicans will get some concessions...elections have consequences.

The question, then, is how many and in what form those concessions are gonna be?  And are the concessions on the table more, less or equal to what is acceptable.  At the moment, they seem to be somewhere between neutral and bad.

They'll get things during the process of adding things back into the budget. One of them will be lowering tax rates on the highest income bracket. Hopefully we can get unemployment extensions then.

Will the expiring Bush Tax Cuts take us back to 5 tax brackets? Or are we staying at 4 no matter what? Anyone?

      •  No they don't. Not even a little. (0+ / 0-)
        Elections have consequences.
Actually, the Republicans have proved that they don't.

Democrats got more than 51% of the votes in the US for the House. Republicans will have 54% of House seats in 2013. If Democrats had gotten 56% of the votes for House members, and the additional votes were spread out evenly by population, the Republicans would still control 52% of House seats.

        Elections no longer have consequences.

offer up a much, much bigger package of benefit cuts, to benefits enjoyed by, say, the richest corporations on the planet? You know, those enjoying record/windfall profits on top of the billions in blatant welfare payments they get every year. Why isn't THAT a reasonable benefit cut package to offer? Why must cuts always be targeted at the poorest, sickest, most elderly segments of the population - the ones with the LEAST money?

When asked why he robbed banks, a famous bank robber answered "because that's where the money is." In today's world the banks rob us and then the government comes along after them to steal more to give to the crooks. They've already taken our homes, our land, our labor, our children, our liberty and our hopes for the future. All we ever had that was of real value in this world - everything has been devalued to death. We've nothing left but but blood, so of course they want that too. Though they also want to drag out the suffering as long as possible while they're at it, since it's our suffering the Undead depend upon for sustenance, not the death that is its end.

Why are politicians of all stripes so stubbornly blind to this totally backwards socially suicidal bullshit?

    •  SS cuts are "almost a non-starter"? (1+ / 0-)

      Dude, look down.

There's nothing "almost" about going after the New fucking Deal.
