with the 1.7 raise this year it just covers the rise in my utility bill.
The rise in insurance and food means im on the short end of the stick.
As for taking the house in 2014, KISS that goodbye if these benifits get touched.
After 2 years of no cola's and a measly 1.7 this coming year I call bullshit on nobody getting hurt.

retirement is based on working for 40 years.

I'll share a private resentment.  While, I'm sure that many receive disability SS for valid reasons.  I also know that there are recipients, with the help of lawyers, and judges, who abuse the system.  Nothing gets in my craw more than seeing those with teapublican bumper stickers parked in handicapped parking spaces. (Just those who look 20 years younger than I, and could beat me in a 3 mile jog.)

mine who suffered from MS in his 20's.  There were days he could barely get out of bed or walk, but he still had a job that he had to go to in order to keep what crappy health insurance he had at the time.  He had a renewing handicapped sticker and while there were times he didn't have problems moving around, there were plenty of times he did.  I look at people with handicapped stickers but no discernible issue and I just tell myself they're likely ill on the inside.  It helps to keep my blood pressure down.

Disabled people get denied benefits all the time.  Stuff like Shrapnel in the brain and can barely talk or move...denied benefits.

And it's especially bad for the mentally ill and uneducated, because they are so not "savvy"when it comes to getting benefits.  A guy will have one day a year without pain so he can walk to the store...and when a judge asks if he can walk to the store he'll say "yes" without mentioning that he can only do it once a year and get denied disability benefits.

    •  Same here. Last raise, my landlord raised rent (7+ / 0-)

just about the same amount, and this is a 55+ place so it hit everyone. But for me, living on only SS, it was a blow. I told the landlord to forget it, I couldn't pay it and haven't. She did not do anything, guess I'm lucky. But since she has vacancies, it makes sense since I never miss a payment.

Food and gas prices have gone up in the last few years and no increases have ever approached making up for that.

It is those on fixed income, slaves to corporations or the banking industry who are told to suck it up. Meanwhile, Lord Blankfein lives at "Downton Abbey"?
