The second might be Flower. Both made by That Game Company, now available (along with their first game, Flow, which is really more of a tech demo) on disc, though when I bought them they were download-only. Both are very different from the types of games I normally play and I'm glad I played them. Still do, from time to time.  There's a lot of good games for the PS3 that are PS3-only; depending on what he likes to play a PS3 wouldn't be a bad purchase. Assuming it's in a common area you could use it as a media box as well if you don't have a BluRay player.

Now, regarding the diary. Back when Virginia Tech happened, the usual suspects (like Jack Thompson) started on with the knee-jerk reaction about video games. The black humor joke among gamers online was that no way would Cho play games like Halo. He was Korean, so he must have only played Starcraft. And it's from that game that the black humor of a child "zerg rush" is in another diary.

ones.  Our problem is that we can't really do gaming on our computers as they are very old and don't have good graphics/animation capability.

I wish those games were available on xbox.

That's one more thing to add to my long list of small problems. --my son, age 10

So does the X-Box, but it seems to me that there are more PS3 exclusives these days than X-Box. The 360s biggest exclusive is still probably Halo. And the PS3 is an excellent BluRay player and streaming media device. If the kid doesn't want one he doesn't want one but it's still something worth taking into consideration.
