  •  why is no one mentioning (7+ / 0-)

the fact that this deal will most likely include a raise in capital gains/dividends rates?  Looks like they will go back to pre-Bush levels for those making more than $250,000.

Fact is the deal as currently outlined contains a lot of victories for our side.

    •  Boehner rejected it (5+ / 0-)

and will get much better from his perspective:

"There are also some who think that Boehner — and, more to the point, Boehner’s House members — increasingly see weakness in the White House’s negotiating position.

A few weeks ago, the Obama administration was firm that they wouldn’t budge on tax rates for income above $250,000 and that they wouldn’t budge on the debt ceiling. They’ve since budged on both. Republicans increasingly think the White House will concede more now, and that if they don’t concede more now they’ll definitely give Republicans a better deal if threatened with debt default. Whether or not that’s true, it pulls Republicans — and Boehner — to the right, as it makes it harder for Boehner to argue for a compromise now."

put forward.  I don't think there's enough votes in the Senate right now.  Plus I wrote on DKos today about everyone telling their Senator to back Mark Begich's plan to strengthen Social Security:

Kind of wish that diary was on the rec list because it would at least motivate community members to take action instead of resorting to the doom and despair comments that are all too popular here some times.

      •  Well, at least (0+ / 0-)

Boehner's blowin' smoke up his own Caucus's butt, and givin' the rest of the House a break. He really wants that job after January! Anything?

        Check.

I think it's outrageous that unearned income receives such preferable treatment compared to hard earned wages.

Also, a little known provision of the ACA is that it applied the Medicare tax to capital gains.
