    violent video games basically begins and ends with The Elder Scrolls.  (Yes, I played D&D back in the day.)

    There is something cathartic about picking up your character's axe and beating the living shit out of some slimebag who desperately needs it.

    So I agree with you: video games don't cause violence any more than violent comics caused violence in the 1950s, when that was all the scare of people who don't understand comics.

    It's not one specific thing, it's that all of American culture is steeped in violence, that we adore it.  Our culture is basically fucked up: a bare breast and a bit of sex onscreen will get your movie at least an R rating, but if the movie is violent, it gets a PG.

    And no, I'm not blaming movies, either.  I'm blaming the mostly white, old man American mentality that causes all this.

    I'm also blaming W. and Congress for allowing the assault weapons ban to expire.  Their stupidity is the real reason for all the carnage.
