    agricultural extension agent. And while I agree that painting DDT onto houses and nets is different than indiscriminate spraying, I can tell you that people there will not use DDT only in the way it is recommended. I spent quite a lot of my time trying to convince people to use pesticides properly--and some of them not at all, since the industrial world dumps all the stuff there they can't sell in other countries--and it was a hard row to hoe.

    I particularly tried to get them to stop using old pesticide canisters to hold drinking water, that their children were drinking out of. The most common comment I got was, well, Africans are tough, not like white people.
