    I noticed the snark tag.

I think the only difference between this plan and a Rethug proposal is... well, the Regulated part.

Rethugs would insist on every teacher paying for their own gun.  No classes required, but a minimum clip size and caliber would probably be mandated.

I don't blame Christians. I blame Stupid. Which sadly is a much more popular religion these days.

    •  I don't think that who pays (3+ / 0-)

for the guns is the biggest issue. Cities confiscate many guns; they could simply clean and service the various guns and give them, gratis, to teachers who have completed weapons training for teachers. I think that the biggest issue here is the liability associated with teachers accidentally killing innocents. This could happen during an attack, but it also is bound to happen due to accidents or misunderstandings. I think that net net more people could die due to teachers being armed than the number saved.

Teachers should not get free rides, dammit!  They should pay for their own guns!

And clearly any fatalities would be on the teacher, as an armed individual.  Schools cannot be responsible for the actions of one deranged individual with a gun!

to use the gun as long as they are teaching, but must return it when they retire. Teachers would also be able to turn in the gun in exchange for a different kind, should they want to experience other guns. It would really be a good thing as well for the public to have teachers cross-trained on various weaponry.
