I post from Utah, reddest state in the nation, where this has just happened in the metropolitan area:

And on the local discussion boards, all of the talk—both about this and about Sandy Hook—involves how "@#$*& liberals will use this as an excuse to take away our guns."

There is no change in this society. It has gone insane. It is a nation of ideologues, and those are doomed—as we have seen again and again throughout history—to destroy themselves.

    •  You should diary the incident in Utah (0+ / 0-)

and your community's response to it.

I really wonder what these people are thinking.

Just spent part of the night Facebooking about it and talking to my (very shaken European) wife about it. I don't think I have it in me to be political about it.

These sorts of things go beyond politics and governance, into the core of culture.

When you are so at odds with a prevailing culture, it's no longer about politics; it's about knowing that you don't belong and it's time to go because there are irreconcilable differences and you simply don't belong.

And anyway, the nation is full of this. Why would this story make any impact if Sandy Hook itself hasn't prompted anything other than The Usual[TM]?

The child obviously had ZERO comprehension of gun safety, which is on the PARENTS.

      The stupid is bottomless.
