  •  All well and good to say but the reality (0+ / 0-)

is we have a Republican house so there are going to be cuts.  If we go over the cliff there are cuts, many of which will not be restored.  If we make a deal there will be some cuts somewhere as well.

You can say you aren't playing all you want but stepping away from the game means cuts come January 1.

So again the question becomes which cuts are acceptable to you and which aren't.

hell,I share in some of it. But if the deal Boehner rejected (the one with a chained cpi,tax cuts for those with income over 250K) wasn't good enough, then I think we need to go over the cliff.

mean shit, believe me.  Or not.  And I stated which cuts would be acceptable to me in my previous comment.   But I have to disagree, the cuts were coming anyway.  Did you not hear Obama when he said he would have to make tough choices?   All of this is not surprising and what many knew was coming.
Don't matter, it will happen regardless what a few people on the internet argue about.

      •  Okay but what about cuts to social programs (0+ / 0-)

Because those are going to happen one way or another.  We simply are not going to get just defense cuts out of this.  It all boils down to which economically vulnerable population you are willing to take the biggest hit.  Because whether it is the unemployed, the elderly, those on Medicaid, kids depending on head start, etc there are going to be some hits taken.

to back the President, just as so many of us have been contacting the WH and congress, what is left?

They are not listening and no one has to run for office again for at least 2 years, so we have been rendered irrelevant.

          No guts no glory.
I can say I didn't vote for any politician who will vote or support this bullshit.

        •  We gratify ourselves and vote against Dems (0+ / 0-)

As indeed has already happened in a few places.  Old, tired, corporate sell-out congressman Leonard Boswell loses to Republican Tom Latham in central Iowa even as Obama is comfortably carrying the district.  Think that one should have raised a few eyebrows . . . if a person politically to the right of the president loses to someone even further right, while the president is winning the seat.

And if you're fortunate enough to live in a district where there's more than just a choice between a Democrat and a Republican . . . then you have that much bigger a decision to make.

The Democratic Party, remember, still has not had its Goldwater moment -- the point that the Arizona senator challenged the Republican Party in 1960 to think about what they actually stood for.

Perhaps it needs one.  Even if it takes us 20 years of our own to realize the results.
