  •  I'm not following this. (0+ / 0-)

What "harmless self-indulgence" could a person sacrifice in order to "curtail others' harmful self-indulgences"?

    •  by that rubric we should quit having (5+ / 0-)

privately-owned automobiles. Especially multiple ones per family!

There's factual evidence of the harm done by automobiles to back up this claim ... air pollution, traffic congestion, harmful emissions, crashes that maim and kill people.

Why, just think: we could completely eliminate drunk driving! All we'd have to do is ... take away the cars!

      •  uh huh (3+ / 0-)

when the last gun-dick makes the last dimwitted analogy between a car and a gun, there may be hope for rational progress on this issue.

        •  since you're so kind (0+ / 0-)

let me point out to you that there are several million firearms in this country which are NOT used to massacre school children, mall customers, or coworkers every single day.

          •  yes, there are. (0+ / 0-)

and that observation is an irrational, illogical, senseless, meaningless non-contribution to anything resembling an understanding of the situation.

so blow me. and then go kill something. you'll feel better.

but I hope you feel better now.

because people like you are going to continue making it impossible to do the simple things that need to be done in order to make things like what happened at that school rare and unusual.

and I'm extremely thankful to know that it IS a rare & unusual event.

There are literally millions of privately owned firearms in the USA that are not used to kill schoolchildren. There are literally millions of Americans who own firearms who don't kill themselves or their family members or their neighbors.

                  •  Your argument hasn't changed (0+ / 0-)

And it remains exactly as stupid -- yes stupid -- as it has been for the last 40 years.

Rare and unusual? Rare enough to meet whatever insane threshold you have set internally so as to prop up your disregard for other people's children, I guess.
