You have a point or two.  I wish Obama would have come out snarling and bit Boner in the ass with a hard core and very publicized deal reflective of a "Mandate"

I wish Obama would assume the role of policy creator and actively sculpt a serious gin control policy.

But you miss a HUGE point.  That is not OBAMA.

He is a great mediator. He sees the finish line we cannot see.
He attempts to avoid conflict even while he is the cause of it, it never really touches him.  He is our president for these four years and I am extremely happy he is.  Now keep on whining if you want but until you have either a full progressive legislature or a new hard core progressive president (Howard Dean anyone?) then you will be seething, cause Obama will lead Obama style. Which for me right now, is a thing to be very thankful for!

"He sees the finish line we cannot see." A novel interpretation of his backpedaling on his promises.
Maybe it will open easy negotiations on naming post offices or something.

Sure he see's the finish line. Its easy to get there when you run over the poor people in the way. What a stupid comment!

He still screwed up the handling of his latest deal.

Once again, he's made the Democrats own an unpopular policy that he put in the deal to appease Republicans.

By putting an offer on the table that included specific cuts to Social Security, it doesn't matter that it was a Republican idea.  It is now a Democratic policy.

What he did on the first offer was correct.  "Here is the revenue I want.  Here are the cuts I'll accept.   Define the cuts you want and what the quid-pro-quo will be for them.  Don't ask for anything your caucus can't deliver."

If Bohner had responded "I'll give you tax rate increase over 400k and your random stimulus measures in exchange for social security COLA cut" then it would be the REPUBLICANS cutting social security, even if Obama signed the final bill and helped push it through the senate.

Instead, Bohner seems to have said all of that in private, Obama came back with a new offer including all of that...and B moved the goalposts.  Just like he did EVERY OTHER TIME THEY NEGOTIATED.

So right now we are at a deal that is possibly worse than doing nothing, and praying that our president doesn't AGAIN try to move further away from his stated policy preferences just because B moved the goalposts again.   Or we're praying the Tea Partiers will be so hardline that they won't accept victory again, as they did in July 2011.

That isn't where we should be right now.   We should still be at the Prez's first offer, waiting for B to offer a counter that his caucus can accept.
