  •  why does rasing revenue require cutting spending? (4+ / 0-)

If you can answer that, then perhaps I could get my head around this.  I think the simplest answer is to just let all of the Bush tax cuts expire.  Between that and some reduction in the sequester we can raise 4 trillion in 10 years.  That should make even deficit scolds happy.

On another point, we are fixating on the wrong issue.  It's not the deficit, it's the jobs.  Indeed, it's the structure of the undemocratic work place that is causing these problems.  If you had more jobs in this country, you would have more revenue.  But because the work place is undemocratic jobs are outsourced to the lowest bidder.  If you to see real change, empower workers by extending them loans so they can start employee owned businesses.

    •  I believe (0+ / 0-)

that the 4 trillion in tax increases would push the economy into a recession, taking 290 billion out of the middle and lower classes hands.

I believe the whole trick is to try to raise taxes, and cut spending in ways that will not tank the economy.
