  •  President Obama has not been my ally on much. (10+ / 0-)

I voted for him in 2008 because I thought he was the best option to expand the Democratic base (which he, to his credit has done).  I voted for him in 2012 because he was the alternative to the asylum approved GOP.

But it is President Obama who is the fair weather friend. When he needed my vote he was all milk and honey.  Now that he's gotten it he's back to his old hat tricks.  The difference between 2008 - 2012 and 2012 -2016 is that I won't be holding back my criticisms.

right now.  How soon we forget about the repeal of DADT, support for gay marriage, no support in courts on DOMA, equal pay for women, letting marijuana laws stand in Colorado and other states.  OBAMACARE...I am happy about this because I have a grown disable child under my roof.  We are out of Iraq

Go continue to vote with the Republicans...see if they will support your progressive causes.

I agree you are not a fair weather friend...you are no friend of President Obama. And, I do not believe you voted for him in 2008 or 2012.

so sure ... in the absence of a real National Health program ... if I had a disabled adult to care for and it looked like someone had arranged to make it possible ... I might make up other reasons for giving them my loyalty, also.

Now ... it's true ... just a little kindness goes a long way toward making the LGBTetc. quite fain and glad; simply NOT siding with homophobes counts for a lot.  And repealing DADT certainly did take a lot of attention away from shortcomings in Veterans Administration policy and funding.  (Just sayin')

And White House Pot Policy certainly sounds good ... if one listens to the voices in one's own head.  Paying attention to facts on the ground, however ...   This administration takes its  marijuana front of the Drug War pretty damn seriously.  But still ... it's nice to know that the federal budget won't stretch to prosecuting individual users growing their own 7 plants on their own land.  So, once again "so much better than nothing."

But it's so far from true to call The President "the best friend a progressive can have."  He's not even the best friend a progressive has NOW (considering the political realities of Our Times).  He's no kind of friend to progressives or Progressivism at all.  What he is is,  "a whole lot better than living with the gallery of grotesques that Romney would have installed in the White House.)

Like I always say:  He's much better than a poke in EACH eye with TWO sharp sticks. Which doesn't make him a good ophthalmologist.

        And certainly not "a friend."

is are strange. Canadians of all stripes take for granted every item you've listed.

BTW, you cannot give Obama credit for getting out of Iraq. It was Bush's SOFA that got the US out. If it was up to Obama, there would still be 20,000 US troops there.

Don't Ask Don't Tell had the political cover of the Joint Chiefs and they still had to have the preasure of thousands of LGBT activists to do something that should've happened faster.

And remember when his DOJ totally defended DOMA until his position "evolved"?

Equal Pay was a good bill I don't dispute.

Obama doesn't get to let any law in WA and CO "stand" by fiat. Seriously? Let them stand?! What does that even mean? One fluff interview where he says happy words is hardly a policy stance.

Obamacare is good first step.  I'm tired of acting like it was The New Deal.  I like it.  It could have been more if President Obama had bothered to fight for Single Payer. Or hell, even use it for leverage instead of just taking it off the table as starting position.

And we left Iraq according to the Status of Forces agreement that was agreed to by the Bush Administration. We should have been out sooner.

And I have never voted for a Republican in my life and don't give two shits what some stranger on the internet thinks of me. Go praise the President for all the good it'll do.
