  •  They'll never get it. They just can't. (0+ / 0-)

On the right, it's blatant racism that's the crux of the problem.

But on the left? It's often a case of latent racism. At some ugly level, there are folks who can't wrap their minds around the fact that the President of the United States is extraordinarily gifted intellectually and African-American.

Don't get me wrong, folks. I'm not saying all criticism of Obama is rooted in racism. It's not.

But the latent racism on the left rears its ugly head time and again.

    Obama knows what he's doing.

He always knows what he's doing.

I'm glad he's on our side, because I'd hate to have him for an enemy.

How about I believe in the unlucky ones?

    •  I don't think it's racism, necessarily (1+ / 0-)

I think it has to do with temperament. There are quite a few in the progressive camp who are "take no prisoners" types, who would prefer no deal to one that involves compromise (e.g., those who tried to stop the passage of the ACA because it wasn't single payer, or didn't have a public option).

To people with this kind of temperament, Obama is weak and they will always be unsatisfied with what he accomplishes...setting aside, of course, the fact that a "no compromises" approach would yield no accomplishments at all in an era of divided government.
