In fact it will be required on some issues.

But I guess it still just boggles my mind how Social Security gets lumped into this discussion.  It has nothing whatsoever to do with the debt or the debt ceiling.  Nothing.

The long term solvency of Social Security is a separate issue, and one that could be easily addressed separately.  There's no rational reason why cuts to Social Security should be entertained as part of these negotiations.

Democrats in DC should know better than to even entertain cuts to social security as part of these negotiations.  If asked why they refuse to cut social security, they should just state the simple fact that social security doesn't add a cent to the debt.

There's another old saying, Senator: don't piss down my back and tell me it's trickle down

to the deficit is irrelevent. The real question is what are the least painful cuts required to get a deal. If Obama thinks CPI in social security is it then I trust him. Others disagree and that's fine, I just want to know from people who are ready to throw Obama overboard what painful cuts to what cherished programs should Obama make to get a deal?

Now there's a part of me the wishes Obama would treat dealing with these despicable Republcians as a zero sum, fight to the death but I know that's not who he is and I suspect that's why he's won more battles than he's lost and why he's won two elections in convincing fashion.
