  •  "The Largest Tax Increase in American History" (15+ / 0-)

total bullshit by Boehner as usual.  Right now Boehner is trying to get the MSM to help him try to lower the President's approval rating so he will have more leverage after we go over the "Curb" on January 1st, and judging by the last few years the MSM will only be too happy to help him.

The Plan B bill is DOA in the Senate so this is just Boehner and the R's in the house conning the American people into thinking they are being responsible when they couldn't give a rat's ass about anyone who doesn't make a ton of money.

I'm also glad this seems to be the way we are going (over the Curb) as I believe the President's hand in this becomes stronger after the tax cuts expire.  Obama and the Dems in the Senate will need to immediately pass a Tax Cut for 98% of the people after Jan 1st and DARE the repub's to not pass it in the House.

    •  A tax cut bill can be filled w/ progressive stuff (8+ / 0-)

After we go over the "cliff", Democrats and most Republicans will feel compelled to pass a bill that cuts taxes (back down to the current level) for income less than $250,000 (while leaving the tax rate in place for income over that amount). That bill could then be filled with other progressive goodies that would stimulate the economy and help ordinary people: end the debt ceiling limit forever, extend unemployment benefits, increase funding for food stamps, eliminate the cap on Social Security taxes (so income over $110,000 is taxed too) and extend the tax to non-earned income, institute a financial tax, provide more stimulus in the form of infrastructure and green energy funding, cut wasteful military spending, extend the tax credit for wind turbines for another 5 years, add a public option to Obamacare, etc.

Democrats should gladly ignore the Republican hostage-taking now, let us go over the cliff, and then write a solid progressive bill. We could actually do things that people elected Obama to do, Democrats could take credit for it, and then in 2014 it will be a lot easier to win back the House.

Is doing a fine job bringing down his approval rating all on his own.
