  •  There are so many stories, deep, dark and (3+ / 0-)

    mysterious stories, behind objects.

In the box that I chose for my beloved father's ashes, are also my parents' conflicts over my mother's collecting of old things; my father's relationship with me and its ups and downs over the years; my intense longing for a way to tell my father all the things I never got to say to him; my parents' 56-year marriage with its two periods of near-divorce, its stretches of falling in and out of love, its strengths and its emptinesses; etc. etc.

What you did for your godchildren took so much strength.  Facing our, and others', stories is some of the hardest work we can do as humans together.

That's one more thing to add to my long list of small problems. --my son, age 10
