  •  German traditions (14+ / 0-)

I remember when I was much younger. My parents were not much into Christmas. One of my friends would always invite me over for the exchange of presents on 24-December.

I also remember Mrs. Gonzalez, (Frau Gonzalez), placing those real candles with those tin plates on the Christmas tree and lighting them. At first, I thought she was nuts. Then, I find out that lighting the candles on the tree is a very widespread tradition in Germany.

I have very fond memories of spending my Christmas Eve's over at the Gonzalez's place. Elias, (Mr. Gonzalez), was Mexican, and was an army air force mechanic in WW2. He met his wife over in Frankfurt Germany right after the war.
