  •  sadly, the 2010 loss ended up not being (7+ / 0-)

    in our hands. The numbers say that we turned out basically in the same numbers we had for the past two cycles and voted Democratic. It wasn't "the base" that stayed home. It was independents and swing voters, and the young, none of whom are heavily invested in party loyalty.

    Liberals and progressives voted with their party loyalty in 2010. I know it would be a hell of a lot easier to think it was something we did or didn't do that was responsible for the loss, b/c then we could fix it so that it didn't happen again. But it was other people who made that decision. And at the end of the day, there's a limit to how much organizers/canvassers can sway people to support a Party if the Party keeps doing things that are really really damned unpopular.
