    •  so, the dollars seniors save thanks to PPACA? (0+ / 0-)

      what are they, monopoly money?

For Social Security beneficiaries, the effect would barely be felt in a one-year period. In most years, chained CPI differs from the other inflation measure very little -- only by about 0.3 percentage points, according to the Social Security Administration's chief actuary.

This year, for example, that would shave about $4 a month off the cost of living increase for the average Social Security recipient. Currently slated for a $21-dollar-a-month increase, the average Social Security recipient would instead receive a boost of only $17 a month.

per PPACA, annual wellness exams and many preventive screenings are now free for seniors.  and seniors are on track to save an average of $400 annually through closing the doughnut hole.  and that's the low end of the savings.
"For example, before the health care law passed, a person with Medicare could pay as much as $160 in cost-sharing for a colorectal cancer screening. Because of the health care law, many preventive services are now offered free to beneficiaries (with no deductible or co-pay) so the cost is no longer a barrier for seniors who want to stay healthy and treat problems early.”

...In 2011, an estimated 32.5 million people with original Medicare or Medicare Advantage received one or more preventive benefits free of charge.

so saving $400 per year NOW versus losing $50 at some point in the future translates as a losing proposition?

(yes; i know the total figure ends up being more than $50.  but if one saves $400 now, that's $350 they have in pocket.  even if the CPI thing doubles to $100 the next year, the savings still outweigh it.
