    Two unions, the AFT and AFSCME, dominate the Federation by sheer size.  Those two unions have become arms of the Democratic party rather than independant advocates for working people - they see their role as first, protecting incumbent Democrats and second, electing more.  No interest in the "better" part of the formulation we use here.
    Interestingly the Right rails against this because, in their view, in results in Dem legislators who are too beholden to public employee unions.  My problem is the opposite: it results in public employee unions who are unwilling to criticize Democratic office-holders or carry out their true function to advocate for working people regardless of party.
