  •  The impact is greater on women, too (9+ / 0-)

The median SS retirement benefit for women entering today is about $1,100.  That means half of women retirees earn less than that.

Wrong in so many ways, punishing those who can least afford it.

Democratic Leaders must be very clear they stand with the working class of our country. Democrats must hold the line in demanding that deficit reduction is done fairly -- not on the backs of the elderly, the sick, children and the poor.

well. And substantial numbers of women veterans for the first time. And of course, we live longer, too.

are having to retire early on SSDI, particularly those living long term w/ metastasis or recurrent disease.

Wave that pink ribbon, GOP, better yet just shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

Although I 'retired' 20 years before BC caught up with me. There are more women on SSDI compared to 30 or 40 years ago simply because women now fully participate in the workforce and thus in SS payroll taxes, as compared to when SSDI benefits first were created.
