  •  What, again, are the Republicans prepared (4+ / 0-)

    to give?

You speak as if this is some kind of negotiation between two reasonable parties. Are you unaware that the Republicans main goal is to slit our throats?

The fiscal cliff is pure propaganda. It doesn't exist.

For one thing, the imaginary gun at our head is supposedly held by Banksters who wouldn't buy our bonds. Well, the Federal Reserve is buying almost all of our bonds as it stands today. They aren't going to stop, whatever the bluff.

Moreover, the full faith and credit of the United States can not be questioned, says the Constitution. A Congressional resolution of a century ago does not, cannot, supersede the Constitution. The President can simply order Treasury to issue US Notes (as opposed to Federal Reserve Notes), as was done by Lincoln to fund the Civil War.

Sovereign governments such as the United States can print new money. However, there's a statutory limit to the amount of paper currency that can be in circulation at any one time.
Ironically, there's no similar limit on the amount of coinage. A little-known statute gives the secretary of the Treasury the authority to issue platinum coins in any denomination. So some commentators have suggested that the Treasury create two $1 trillion coins, deposit them in its account in the Federal Reserve and write checks on the proceeds.
So you could kick out people's supports (and this will not be the last attack on Social Security); or you could have the courage and integrity to refuse to be held hostage to a purely imaginary gun. If it wasn't President Obama, which would you say is the right course? Right humanly, economically, for the nation.

(Understood that when it's President Obama, whatever he does is right, so hence the qualification.)
