  •  You make the other party seem unreasonable. (0+ / 0-)

It's not the first time The admin and Pelosi have offered up this chained CPI adjustment.  They obviously feel this is the least draconian way of offering some compromise on SS. Yes it sucks but we are still paying the price for the 2010 mid term elections.

      •  Sorry my posy wasn't clear (0+ / 0-)

You asked why make the offer and damage the party brand.  Then my response should have read "You make the offer that you are pretty sure they are going to refuse to make the other party seem unreasonable"

The GOP can't claim that the deems won't offer some Big three cuts in an effort to bring down spending.  Of course they will make that claim but most people will see that as BS.  It works.  That's why the republican brand is being damaged more each go round.  We see this reflected in the new CCN poll today.

        •  Us offering to cut Social Security doesn't (0+ / 0-)

          make them seem unreasonable.

          It makes us seem untrustworthy.

    •  And at what point, exactly.... (0+ / 0-)

... do the Republicans start paying for the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections?

      •  They paid for it with ACA (0+ / 0-)

The repeal of Don't ask don't tell.  The Lily ledbetter act.  etc.  They are going to be paying for it with the tax rates on the wealthy going up and the next supreme court nominee if BO gets to appoint one.
