  •  Years ago when I worked at Hertz - (12+ / 0-)

god I love to just name them - we all had sick days, but we were written up for using them.  When you called in sick, it was an incident and you were counseled the next day when you came back.  Three incidents within a certain time period and you were fired.

It is hard to believe that we had a working class living with those policies more than 20 years ago, and we wonder what happened to the working class in America.  We wonder why they are so bitter and turn to angry politics and vote against their own interests.  The brain washing started a long time ago.

At one point, a woman missed work to take her son to the hospital to be treated for an asthma attack.  Her son died and the next day she was counseled for her incident and told this must  not happen again or she would lose her job.

Hertz had corporate headquarters with all the perks back in New Jersey and without these policies.  These policies were just for the working stiffs back at their worldwide reservation center in what is today the very red state of Oklahoma.

It gets on my nerves, and you know how I am about my nerves...

    •  That is cruel and totally absurd. (7+ / 0-)

Why did they even bother giving you guys sick days? Why not just drop the pretense?

I'm glad you get to name names now too.

      •  It was the beginning of quantifying performance. (5+ / 0-)

For example, there was a daily print out of how much occupancy time we had on the phones.  If we had 98%, we needed to go for 99%.  Anytime that we unplugged from calls, it showed a lack of occupancy.

I will never forget a woman in the last few months of her pregnancy being asked by the supervisor going over her statistics - "Can't you just hold it?".
