geneo-rants ... I wouldn't know where to begin!! lol.  Just... write it down, or record it. Gah.

I think my worst is the family legend perpetuated by great-Uncle George and continued by his granddaughter, cousin Doris, that his mother (who would be my great-grandmother) ran off for Alaska (after the father died) and became either a saloon queen or Madame or some such, but defnitely rollin in dough, "diamondly rich". Doris claimed she remembered meeting this woman when she/Doris was very little and remembers her as glamorous and beautiful! Doris was born abt 1925, g-gmo was born 1850. So, in 1930 g-gmo woulda been... 80. yahrite.

I think our "Diamond Lil" was George's and my GFA's SISTER not their MOTHER. The sister that I found in Missoula MT abt 1890 at age 18. Whatever, but what I dont understand is why he would run with this idea that his MOTHER was a Madame?

Or... since George was informally 'adopted' by his mother's brother when he was 3, how could George not have had some better knowledge (later in life as an adult) about his own mother's story.  Like, maybe that she DIED when he was a baby?  Oh and the fact that their father DIDNT die... at least not until a decade or two later, I cant find him either after about 1894. (But Sister's husband did die 1909 and fits the legend story much better.)

    I dont get it. Grrr.

Oh and Ill just add that we - including my father - never knew they (George and my GFA) even HAD a sister! until I discovered her a year or two ago. What's wrong with these people?!?!? lol

    Great OT diary!
