  •  I believe that the anti-tyranny folks (12+ / 0-)

enjoy their fantasies about mowing down anyone coming for their guns, without considering who they might be.  United Nations soldiers armed with hundred-year-old rifles, perhaps?  Unarmed bureaucrats reading a decree to surrender all weapons?  Who knows?

In the few times I've found myself facing a gun wingnut, I attempt to defuse the situation by saying "I own guns and I'm not the least bit worried about the government taking them."  And then I try to change the subject.

Sometimes I am tempted to ask them to explain exactly how a gun confiscation law would get through Congress, or how it could be unilaterally declared by the President.  And after that, how exactly would it be carried out.  But I'm fully aware that a rational conversation with a wingnut is not in the cards.

    •  I think you hit the nail on the head (6+ / 0-)

(so to speak) with the United Nations.

A faction of the (deeply sick) Right are preparing to fight United Nations troops, whom they believe will be storming the US to deliver a "One World Government."

      Folks, they are "war rations."
Can we please refer to food stamps by their proper name?

      •  How strange that they fear a UN "One World Govt" (9+ / 0-)

and not a megacorporate "One World Rule". IMHO the latter is the greater danger and is already well under way.

        If it's
        Not your body,
        Then it's
        Not your choice
        And it's
        None of your damn business!

or at least attempt to, I do engage right-wingers in conversations about other topics.  Just last week, I spoke with a woman who seemed perfectly okay with the super-rich becoming even more wealthy while the middle class gets screwed more and more.

The threat of our government becoming a plutocracy does not bother these folks in the least.  But that big, mean (and mythical) One World Government has them breaking the speed limit and running red lights on the way to WalMart to buy more ammo.

mercenary force, serving the corporations, escapes them.
The idea of Blackwater/Xe existing as private Wall Street militia is no where on the radar.

You can TOTALLY understand the paranoia about the UN.  There's no end to the power displayed by UN forces with their lightening quick reaction times and ruthless use of force to rule over subject peoples around the globe.

Oh what, the UN is composed of 'peacekeeping' troops less likely than the Swiss army to engage in miiitary action?  How scary.
